Need a recommendation letter?

So, you need a recommendation letter, and you've decided to ask me. This is something I'm generally happy to provide. Before I write a recommendation letter for you, you can expect me to ask you three questions. The answers to those questions dictate how I craft your letter. These are the questions you'll need to answer:

1. What is the deadline for the letter?

   It's good practice to give your letter writers at least a couple weeks notice.

   
   

2. Why do you think you are a good fit for this opportunity?

   Make a good case for yourself so I can make a good case for you in the letter.

   
   

3. What skills and/or characteristics (2-3) would you like me to highlight that I've been able to observe as your professor?

   Make sure to focus on characteristics that I have seen or have evidence for.
